After a marriage ends, any property acquired by either the husband or wife during the marriage (except for property obtained as a gift or inheritance, or solatium) will be divided equally between them, once debts have been subtracted. However, the court may adjust or waive the equal distribution of property if it’s deemed unfair due to one party not contributing to the marriage or other reasons. In making this decision, the court considers factors such as household labor, childcare, contributions to the family, length of marriage, and each party’s economic situation. This claim cannot be passed on to others or inherited unless a contract acknowledges it or legal action is taken. The right to claim the remainder of the property will be lost if not exercised within two years of discovery or five years after the end of the marriage.
